Understanding the Different Levels of Licensing for Assisted Living Providers
Arizona Licensing requirements for long-term, custodial care facilities are divided into three categories:
Supervisory Care: Medication management and administration, meal preparation, laundry and housekeeping, special dietary needs, and more. Clients are usually physically independent in all of their activities of daily living (mobility, toileting, feeding, diabetes management, etc). Minimum levels of memory deficits present at this level of functioning.
Personal Care: Minimum to moderate assistance with some of the client’s activities of daily living. In addition, increased levels of memory deficits may be present at this level of care.
Directed Care: Total or maximum assistance with all or most aspects of the activities of daily living; mobility and transferring assistance, incontinence assistance, diabetes management, tube feeding, catheter and colostomy assistance, and more. Facilities can accommodate clients up to end of life, and they can provide specialized care such as pain management, wound care, intravenous care, tube feeding, tracheotomy care, and more.
Unlike Arizona, very few states have licensed their residential assisted living homes to care up to the highest level available for 24-hour custodial care. Various assisted living homes can accommodate different levels of care, but Good Hands is able to find our clients appropriate placement in care homes with the highest level of care. These residential homes offer a wonderful alternative to skilled nursing facilities for 24-hour care.
